Botley
Project: Botley
Value: £75,073.04
Client: Network Rail
Contract: Design and Build
UKDN Waterflow Role: Principal Contractor
Contractor: A1 Rail and Civils
Description: UKDN Waterflow (LG) Ltd were appointed as a Principal Contractor on this project to carry out works at Botley and A1 Rail and Civils appointed as the Contractor to supply Labour / Skilled Labour / Supervision / Plant Operator
UKDN Waterflow (LG) / A1 Rail and Civils engaged with client to discuss the different options to suit the project requirements. We promoted collaborative working culture to harness the knowledge.
Two cross-drains within the mileage, 79m 0299yds and 79m 0438yds, and these are the focus of the remit. Both cross-drains take the flow of water from the up to the downside.
The system then flows in the down cess, into a French Drain and then to the outfall Culvert at 79m 0678yds. The Cross Drain at 79m 438yds was found to have collapsed. Replace this Cross Drain with same diameter pipe. Survey reported the pipe to be 225mm.
Upside cess pipe from the Catchpit at 79m 0299yds, the survey showed that the pipe was broken and deformed. Replace this section of pipe. Existing pipe is reported to be 225mm. The CCTV survey could not get beyond the initial break, so we should assume that the pipe is in this condition throughout, so replace to the next catchpit at 79m 0269yds.
The Cross Drain at 79m 0269yds was found to be heavily silted. Given the work needed above it makes sense to extend the life of the system as a whole and replace this Cross Drain at the same time. Survey reported it to be 5m of 225mm pipe. If the Deliverer would prefer to fully replace the catchpit at 79m 0299yds in the Up cess to facilitate the works and make construction easier than that is acceptable within this remit.
Replace these 3 assets (the 3 sections of pipe) to maximise the system’s capacity and ensure that the System is fully functional. The pipes should be replaced like-for-like in terms of sizes.

This site is in a cutting located on HOU line between 9m 0877yd and 9m 1637yd. A TSR (50/30) is in place on the HOU line due to geometry issues.
The drainage system is in poor condition within remit mileages. Standing water is found at a sleeper level on a recently renewed piece of track on the NKE2 line under the Kew Bridge Road bridge (Railway ID: 7/14) at 9m 1073yd.
Renewal of drainage pit & pipe System in the 6ft including 1 no cross drain to down cess.
